Special Events Internship | Go Play + The Fields

(Application Deadline: August 22, 2025)


Responsibilities

The internship offers a flexible schedule 15 hours per week, however, this job must be a top priority for a minimum of ten weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Learning to coordinate a world-class facility during sports tournaments and other special events including

    • Initial calls with clients

    • Meeting clients on campus for site visits

    • Assisting with production planning and event set up

    • Supporting onsite coordination of the event 

  • Learning general facility operations, including

    • Providing information about the entire RFK Fields complex, events schedule and permitting process as needed, pleasantly greeting all patrons and answering questions with timely, accurate information

    • Maintaining a clean and safe facility, including cleaning the turf playing fields, emptying trash cans as necessary and monitoring restrooms and maintenance issues

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school completion, college enrollment, or degree preferred

  • Experience/deep interest in nonprofit management, sports/recreation facilities + social entrepreneurship

  • Demonstrated administrative skills, including being proactive in communication and problem solving, developing systems to support staff activities

  • Successful communication and reporting skills

  • Self-starter that takes initiative and communicates accordingly

  • Proficiency in Google apps for document, data, and communications management

Compensation

  • Monthly stipend plus hourly wage as a Field Monitor

  • Reimbursement for uniform pants/shoes, phone service, and alternative transportation



Shift Leader | The Fields

Responsibilities: 

  • General supervision and risk management of field operations including opening and closing the facility, interaction with all patrons, both permit holders and visitors to the facility, and managing fixtures and equipment.

  • Provide excellent customer service for all patrons. This task includes pleasantly greeting all patrons, answering inquiries, providing accurate information, and maintaining a clean facility.

  • Provide information about the entire RFK Campus and events schedule as needed.

  • Completing daily shift reports and incident reports; Update the weather line daily

  • Document both positive and challenging staff performance; communicate to Operations Manager

  • Manage staff on shift, providing direction and constructive feedback

  • Attend shift leader meetings and quarterly staff meetings

  • Complete accident and incident reports as necessary, and file those reports as directed.

  • Monitor patron compliance with all Events DC rules, regulations, and procedures.

  • Assist with special event set-up as needed.  Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the facility including cleaning the turf playing fields daily, emptying trash cans as necessary and monitoring restrooms regularly.  

  • Execute basic maintenance procedures and report any maintenance issues to the Facility Coordinator.  

  • Restock, inventory, and notify the Facility Coordinator of supply needs.  Assist in monitoring and maintaining office equipment performance. 

Required Qualifications  

  • Exceptional customer service, with the ability to adapt easily to a variety of outdoor situations. 

  • Evening and weekend availability, required.

  • Ability to effectively work and participate in a collaborative team environment.

  • Proficiency with computers, including Google applications.

  • Previous experience in managing other staff.

  • Previous experience working in a recreational setting. 

  • Previous experience in conflict resolution.

Hourly position, flexible schedule, $20/hour
